Packing Essentials for a Dive Holiday in Tulamben
Share
As part of our 2024 Festive Countdown, we’re getting ready for a much-needed holiday dive trip to the beautiful waters of Tulamben. Packing for a dive holiday can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you want to travel light but stay prepared. Here's a look inside our bag and why we picked as packing essentials for the trip:

Moonbow's Tulamben dive holiday packing essentials
1️⃣ Poncho in Komodo
Diving is exhilarating, but it can leave you feeling chilly during surface intervals. That’s why our Moonbow Poncho (Komodo design) is the first thing we pack. Lightweight, soft, and cozy, it’s perfect for warming up between dives or covering up after a swim. Plus, it’s easy to pack and dries quickly! Shop Poncho
2️⃣ Two Buffs
For back-to-back dives, having an extra buff is a game-changer. Whether you’re using them to keep your hair in place, protect against sunburn, or add a bit of warmth, they’re versatile and essential. We packed two of our Moonbow Buffs:
- One for comfort during dives.
- One as a backup to stay fresh and ready for the next session.

3️⃣ Microfiber Towel
Traditional towels take up too much space and take forever to dry. Our Moonbow Microfiber Towel is compact, fast-drying, and comes in a handy pouch for easy carrying. We use it to dry off after dives, clean our camera gear, and even as a quick beach mat. It’s one of the most versatile items in our bag. Shop Beach Towel
4️⃣ Sunscreen (SPF 50+)
Diving may take you underwater, but surface intervals often mean spending hours under the sun. A reliable SPF 50+ sunscreen is non-negotiable. We chose a reef-safe option to protect both our skin and the marine life we love. Our favorite: La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMUNE400 Oil Control Fluid SPF50+
5️⃣ Wide-Tooth Hair Comb
Saltwater and long dives can wreak havoc on your hair. A wide-tooth comb makes detangling wet hair much easier without causing breakage. Plus, it’s lightweight and doesn’t take up much space in your bag.
6️⃣ Aloe Vera Gel
After hours in the sun and saltwater, skin can feel dry and irritated. That’s where aloe vera gel comes to the rescue. It’s soothing, hydrating, and a lifesaver for sun-exposed skin. A small tube is more than enough for a week-long trip.
Why These Items Work for Us
Each of these essentials serves a purpose and reflects our commitment to practical, lightweight, and eco-conscious travel. From versatile Moonbow products to small but thoughtful extras like sunscreen and aloe vera gel, everything in our bag is chosen with both comfort and functionality in mind.
Tips for Your Own Dive Packing List
- Pack light: Choose items that are multi-functional and compact, like microfiber towels and buffs.
- Stay sun-safe: Always bring high-SPF sunscreen and aloe vera gel for aftercare.
- Think comfort: Ponchos and buffs keep you warm and cozy during surface intervals.
